Join CEAL
We're always looking for motivated people to join our team.
Our lab's aim is to make it so that advancements in computing are used to give people new abilities rather than just give computers new abilities. We develop computers that help people perceive and interact with the world around them, including other people they care about. Our work incorporates a broad range of skills and activities including AI, design, system development and deployment, and human behavior and preferences studies. To get a feel for the type of work we do, browse our past Projects.
What to expect:
- Roles: Each project is led by a PhD student with whom you'll work closely with.
- Availability: We typically recruit 0–3 new research assistants per term, depending on project needs (we don't know the number of available slots until the term begins).
- NOTE: We are only able to recruit Columbia and Barnard students.
- Commitment:
- Academic year: 10 hours/week (for academic credit)
- Summer: 20 hours/week (for credit or stipend)
- CEAL research assistants may only work in one lab at a time.

From left to right: Sofian Laouzai, Lisa-Maria DiSalvo Garcia, David Nguyen, Vishnu Nair, Brian A. Smith, Gaurav Jain, Brian Ma, and Merrick Wolfley.
To get involved:
- Fill out the CEAL Interest Form to provide your availability and experience.
- We revisit the form every time a position opens, so you only need to fill it out once (the form is configured to allow you to edit your response later).
- Join the CEAL Circle group to see our weekly open lab meetings on your Google Calendar.
Thank you for your interest, and we'll be in touch! Feel free to drop by one of our lab meetings to learn more about the lab and to introduce yourself whether you are actively working with us or not.
